13 years ago, DesignerCon (aka DCon, presented by 3DRetro) debuted at the Pasadena Convention Center and quickly became the West Coast’s premier convention for fans, collectors and creators of cutting-edge collectible art and vinyl toys. Now, DCon is moving to the Anaheim Convention Center, tripling in size to 350,000 square feet of vendor exhibition and programming space.

NOVEMBER 16-18, 2018

Last year, over 37,000 fans and families attended the show to buy world-class, cutting-edge art and related merchandise from popular world-class contemporary artists and brands. This year, the number of vendors and artists is doubling to over 800, and attendance is expected to exceed 50,000.

DC_DCon_Deck_TECHZONE.png

Curated by VRScout Editor-at-Large, Forbes Contributor, and Spatial Reality curator Jesse Damiani and Think Tank Gallery, the Tech Zone is where art and technology get cozy and conspire to blow your mind. From virtual reality installations to augmented reality apps to 3D sculpts of digital work – and all types of fun in between – this space will showcase the work being created at the furthest edge of digital expression.

The work here showcases the shift from the Information Age to the Experience Age – that consumers of art and media are increasingly hungry for immersion and interactivity. These technologies are still young, which is what makes the high-quality of work emerging from them so exciting. In the past decade, artists, game-makers, and storytellers around the world have begun to embrace the unique possibilities of spatial media, and DCon will be a testament to this rapidly emerging paradigm.

To shine light on all this amazing art, we'll host a VRScout-curated panel series throughout the convention, with insight from independent artists, executives at leading companies, journalists, and other oddballs who've found their way into this emerging realm.

See some of our favorite artists and friends that we're inviting to show off to guests below:

VRScout partnered with Soul Pancake and HTC Vive to produce ART ATTACK, a series where VR artists reproduce classic paintings in 3D using Tilt Brush.

Steve Teeple, or Teeps, is a digital artist who brings a background in 3D concept design, digital sculpting, and character art into VR, where he was one of the first Tilt Brush Artists in Residence at Google, as well as working with commercial campaigns such as Valerian to incorporate immersive art into popular entertainment.

WHERE THOUGHTS GO is what happens when you cross VR with PostSecret: across each of the five available “levels,” participants share secrets and leave them behind for others to discover.

With a background in illustration, Wesley Allsbrook brings human gesture into her VR paintings – even in their stillest moments, they breathe with life, movement, and narrative. She’s one of the most sought-after artists in the medium – even for major commercial work like the Shark Week integration depicted above.

Artivive is another AR app for existing 2D illustrations, paintings, and photographs. Each artist can commission or produce their own AR integration – ranging from animation to behind-the-scenes videos to thematic extensions of the piece.

MasterpieceVR is a collaborative sculpting and painting tool in VR – allowing as many as 6 users to work on a 3D piece at once – with 20 more possible spectator spots.

John Orion Young has emerged as a pre-eminent VR sculptor – bringing his vivid brand of ‘JOY’ to a variety of different pieces and live performances.

Leap Motion recently announced Project Northstar, an open-source AR headset that uses hand-tracking to allow users to interact with the digital world using their hands. This table tennis demo showcases just one of many possible use cases for this technology.interaction. While AR's true potential comes from dissolving the barriers between humans and computers, we also believe that it can help improve our abilities in the real world.

The Looking Glass is a brand new holographic display for users to view 3D art in 3D without the use of a headset. It’s an all-new way for artists to showcase their art – and having exceeded their Kickstarter ask by a factor of 10, it’s clear that the mainstream is ready for this type display.

Can Büyükberber is one of the most respected visionaries at the intersection of art and code – producing textures and interaction mechanisms that display the lasting power that art in these emerging formats can have.

Another of Büyükberber’s installations in concert with opera singer Amanda Gregory – “Faces[On]Display” interpolates sound and imagery in realtime to allow users to “augment” their environments and themselves in a format that allows others to witness on a large scale.

A behind the scenes exploration with Obscura's creative technology studio for the making of Emergence, a dynamic visual journey that transforms the façade of Pier 15, the Exploratorium in San Francisco, into a luminous portal revealing unseen dimensions of complex micro and macro phenomena.

MicrodoseVR is a gestural art-creation app built by Android Jones, who first made waves in the immersive world with Samskara. Microdose lets users create living, patterned art environments – typically alongside their favorite song.

If you were onsocial media this Spring, you probably encountered the wash of BEAT SABER videos that seemed to come out of nowhere. Channeling rhythm games like DDR and GUITAR HERO, but transplanting them to an immersive environment, Beat Saber is a physical game that never fails to please crowds.

Ever wanted to spend some quality time with Rick and Morty? Well, in VIRTUAL RICK-ALITY, that’s exactly what you do – and it’s every bit as zany as you’d hope.

Influencer Taryn Southern made waves over the past year with her AI-composed album – and took it a step further by recruiting VR performance wunderkind Danny Bittman to produce a VR music video to accompany one of the lead singles.

Neurable has to be experienced to be believed: you control an environment using just your brainwaves. Yes. You read that right.themselves. People donned an EEG fitted HTC Vive and were able to play a virtual reality game called "The Awakening," not with controllers, but with their mind.

SUPERHOT VR has remained a fan favorite VR game since its launch in 2016, and for good reason. In it, time moves when you do – giving you the ability to feel like a downright magician when you dispatch oncoming punches, throwing stars, and bullets. LINK - - - - - SUPERHOT VR Gameplay Overview: Blurring the lines between cautious strategy and unbridled mayhem, SUPERHOT VR is the definitive VR FPS in which time moves only when you move.

Ever wanted to be a DJ but just felt like you didn’t want to be confined to traditional tools? Survios’s recently launched ELECTRONAUTS puts a whole new spin on what an immersive music experience can be – letting you remix songs you recognize in total unrecognizable ways.ELECTRONAUTS on Instagram: instagram.com/electronautsvr ELECTRONAUTS features eight innovative, interactive music arrangement components only possible in VR. Check out this tutorial video to see how they all work and put them together into a bass-thumping jam!

Flipside XR is a tool that lets you use VR to make an end-to-end animation – using your own body and gestures. Want to have your own alien talk show and draw shapes in the air? Want your director to make sure the edit is perfect? All of that is possible with Flipside.

For those moments where you get way too involved in VR, you need the Infinadeck – an omnidirectional treadmill that immerses you in the full physical reality of movement in a virtual environment.

Speaking of music, Chorus is the future of what a shared, narrative music experience can be. Join up to 5 of your friends and undertake an epic journey together – all set to the Justice song of the same name.

Sometimes, you have to feel it with your own hands to believe it. That’s where haptic gloves come in handy – and HaptX produces the most sensitive gloves on the market. If you’ve never imagined holding a miniature fox in your hand, well…now you don’t even have to imagine.

DCON is bringing a crowd.

And so is Anaheim.

The Anaheim Convention Center first became a meetings and conventions destination in 1967, and the original construction consisted of the domed Arena, which stands on Katella Avenue, an Exhibit Hall and Meeting Space. Since those early days, the Anaheim Convention Center has completed a total of 6 expansions plus several cosmetic renovations to update the Convention Center. Five of the major expansions provided additional exhibit hall and meeting room space. While the 5th expansion, completed in January 2000 resulted in a complete transformation of the Anaheim Convention Center and surrounding campus, the most recent expansion, completed in January 2013, was the Grand Plaza, a 100,000 square feet of exterior space offering meeting planners the opportunity for large outdoor gatherings including alfresco dining, concerts, receptions, exhibitions, meetings and more.

It's right next to Disneyland and nearby multiple airports with shuttles directly to its front doors (including LAX). It's one of the West Coast's most accessible locations for an international audience of the magnitude DCon brings.

DC_DCon_Deck_Sponsorship_3.png

DesignerCon lives in the creative capitol of the world, and is the most genuine and widest slice of it that you can find. While other conventions might boast larger numbers and heavier corporate attention, DCon connects to its artists – and therefore their fans – in a way that is more real than any other. When you partner with DCon, you buy into a vital creative community and speak directly to an audience of influencers tuned into the vanguard of illustrator, animator, and collector culture

And since this event takes place at the brink of the holiday season, our impact and consumer spend opportunity is off the charts.

Our only rule? You must appeal to creatives, and create something inspiring for them.

No matter how you'd like to see your brand presented, we're open to any and all ideas and ready to get creative.
